How did geography play a role in romes Origins?
Italy is located in the middle of the Mediterranean region. Italy is oddly shaped like a high-heeled boot. Across the top of the boot are the Alps. Italy had better farm land than Greece to produce more food. With more capacity to produce food, Italy could support more people.

Rome is located in Italy on top of 7 hills, 15 miles in the Tiber River from the Mediterranean Sea.

How did rome begin
There are many different legends on how Rome began, but the traditional story is that twin brothers named Romulus and Remus founded the city. They were rescued by a wolf as kids and decided to to build a city. Romulus was building a wall and Remus made fun of the wall. Romulus was angry and lashed out and killed his brother. Romulus went to become the king of Rome, the new city named after Romulus.

what were some of the early Influences in rome?
The Greeks and the Etruscans played a major role in shaping Roman civilization. The Romans learned how to grow olives and Grapes. Romans adopted the Greek alphabet, architecture, sculpture, and literature. Romes growth was most influenced by the Etruscans. The Etruscans changed Rome from a village of straw-roofed huts into a city of wood and brick buildings. The Etruscan's army served as a model for the mighty army the romans assembled. The Etruscans ruled Rome for over 100 years, under Etruscans, Rome became wealthy and powerful.

why was rome so strong?
Rome was able to conquer Italy because the Romans were excellent soldiers. In the republic's early days, every male citizen who owned land had to serve in the army. The tough discipline helped mold Roman soldiers into fighters who didn't give up easily. They also were practical problem solvers.

why were roman rulers shrewd?
To make sure everyone knows their place and stays in line. If conquered people revolted against Roman rule, their resistance was swiftly put down.
